The National Flag of India is a horizontal rectangular flag (with the height to width ratio of 2:3) with three equal sized horizontal rectangles - saffron on top, white in the middle and green at the bottom. The middle white band has the Ashoka Chakra - a wheel with 24 spokes - in navy blue. The flag was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 22 July 1947 and was officially hoisted for the first time on Red Fort by India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru on 15 August, 1947.
